My Favourite Green Summer Smoothie with Cucumber, Pear & Flax Oil

As the summer in Berlin is getting hotter and hotter, we tend to look for lighter, fresher food options. This smoothie has become my Nr.1 go-to for when it comes to that.

It is based on sorted food’s recipe. I adapted it to my liking by adding more spinach, substituting the honey with agave because I prefer this smoothie less sweet and lighter (plus this makes it vegan 💛), and replacing lemon with lime for more freshness. I make it whenever I feel like getting a nice, fresh portion of fresh greens, whether it’s for breakfast, or just for in-between. It is so refreshing!

I love the nutty, herby taste of flaxseed oil – it really goes well with the fresh cucumber (that’s why I also love adding it to Tzatziki) and the sweet, grainy pear. Besides, flax oil is ridiculously good for you.

Ingredients

Makes: 1 big smoothie
Time: 5 – 10 min

1/2 large cucumber
1 medium pear
1 1/2 cups of fresh spinach leaves
Juice of 1/2 a lime
2 tbsp flaxseed oil
1 tbsp agave syrup
1/2 cup of cold water
1 handful of ice
1 pinch of salt

Instructions

1.

Prepare: Wash the veggies and the pear. Roughly chop the cucumber, chop and seed the pear.

Enjoy on a hot summer day 💛

TIPS:

  • Try adding 1 celery stick to the smoothie for an even healthier version! It’s optional but goes really well too 💚

  • You can make the smootie an evening in advance and keep it in the fridge and top it with some flaxseed oil when serving. Because of the lime juice it will keep fresh.
